Woodhaven Gardens grows vegetables across 127 paddocks in Horowhenua, and Jay Clarke wanted to know where its nitrous oxide was actually coming from. In this case study Jay explains how the Clarkes worked with Massey University to find out.

Soil nitrogen testing, GPS-guided machinery and precision placement of fertiliser helped the business nearly halve its fertiliser use over three years. Jay is open about the trade-offs the family is still weighing between lower emissions and production.
