Tuna: NIWA working with Ngāti Maniapoto
A collaborative project aimed at helping Ngāti Maniapoto reconnect with tuna and their waterways.

This three-part documentary series from Te Wai Māori Trust visits three waterways that were once important mahinga kai. It records the state of tuna and the waterways and hears from the kaitiaki who care for them.
Its core idea is that water and people share one whakapapa, and that using the language of taonga in decision-making restores their mana. The page includes an info pack, worksheet, and letter template for tamaraki to assess the health of their awa and send what they find to their regional Council.
