Mānuka honey is often considered for marginal land because the cost per hectare is low. This factsheet covers what mānuka needs to grow, how to establish it and the several years before it flowers well, then how hives are run and honey harvested.
The East Cape example shows the revenue and costs on a large block, and makes a loss at current honey prices. It also covers MPI registration, export certification, food safety and the animal product rules for honey.
